Certifications

Certified Fiber Optic Technician-CFOT

CFOT® – Certified Fiber Optic Technician – is the primary FOA certification for all fiber optics applications. CFOTs have appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) in fiber optics that can be applied to almost any job – design, installation, operation – for almost any application – outside plant, premises, manufacturing, etc.

FOA CFOT certification is based on an extensive knowledge of fiber optics technology and application as well as demonstrated skills in appropriate tasks. Most CFOTs work in the industry as contractors or installers. Consultants, network designers, estimators and trainers would also be expected to have such credentials. CFOTs are also involved with the manufacture of fiber optic components such as cables, patch cords, active devices and communications systems.

Certified Fiber Optic Design Specialist -CFOS/D

This Fiber Optic Association certification (CFOS/D) covers the best practices and design alternatives of fiber optic networks within the context of–complete–communications systems or construction projects.

The CFOS/D course is valuable for anyone working with fiber for voice, video, and data applications, on an advanced level to cover all the versatile and ever-growing dimensions of fiber optic technology. It discusses all the theories, concepts, and principles in depth related to fiber optics. A hands-on atmosphere makes you confident to apply the knowledge in the field environment.

The focus is geared toward the design. This includes network protocols, network configurations, optical cabling, industry communications standards, determination of fiber count, hardware selection, splicing termination, methods, cable system testing, troubleshooting, and proper documentation.

Certified Premises Cabling Technician

Certified Premises Cabling Technician-CPCT

Is the FOA certification for designers, installers and operators of premises cabling networks Premises cabling refers to building and campus cabling that is generally customer-owned and used for local area networks of computers (LANs), security systems (CCTV and alarms), building management systems, distributed antenna systems (DAS for cellular and WiFI) and other applications inside buildings or on campus. The FOA CPCT certification KSAs covers copper and fiber optic cabling and wireless communications.
